NetCam XL
Some Common Questions
NetCam XL Live has a simple Ethernet connection that can be connected to your
ethernet network and accessed anywhere in the world using a normal Internet
Browser like Netscape or Explorer. It is so simple you can get it up and running and get video happening in less than 1 hour
! And it really works very well !
NetCam XL is a Megapixel camera to provide very high picture clarity and
resolution for demanding applications.
Of course the best thing is to get one and try it for yourself ! So you can
see and understand how easy it is :)
Following are notes for some specific common questions we have been asked
about.
Also refer to the FAQ for NetCam and NetCam MP for other relevant matters
rather than avoid duplication of FAQ information here.
-
Q: Where can I find International Distributor for Australia, New Zealand
and Asia Pacific Region.
A: Micronica. See www.micronica.com.au Micronica ships Worldwide
! Quickly and easily.
-
Q: When will NetCam XL be available.
A: Netcam and NetCam XL is available from Micronica NOW !
-
Q: What advice can you offer regarding fixed and auto iris lenses ?
A: For NetCam XL 3MP (CAM-XL3MP-01) we strongly recommend using a manual iris lens. The 3MP's
special sensor can handle day/night imaging by setting the iris 90% open.
Yet, there will be no streaking, haziness or damage to the sensor during daylight with a large iris
setting. This is unique to the 3MP sensor. A manual iris lens will also give you a consistent focus day/night
whilst and auto iris opens all the way at night, giving a soft focus.
The recommended variable focal length manual iris lens LEN-MV410CS Varifocal Lens,4-10mm CS,Manual 1/2" is megapixel rated and
also signicantly less in cost than the auto iris lens LEN-MV48AI Varifocal Lens,4-8mm,AI,1/2".
-
Q: What advice can you offer regarding the Fixed Focal 3.6mm lens and
the Vari Focal 4-10mm Lens ?
A: The 3.6mm lens will work on the XL 1.3MP camera, but we would still
recommend the 4-10mm since it has an adjustable iris. On NetCam XL 1.3MP you'd
normally want the iris closed down fairly low. The 3.6mm lens will basically
have an iris that's 80% open all the time, which is fine on the XL 3MP or
any of the SC cameras, but the XL 1.3MP has an older image sensor that's not as
good with bright lights.
-
Q: With the high frame rate that NetCam XL offers does it make it
suitable to shoot snapshots from fast moving vehicles at 100km/hr ?
A: NetCam XL uses 3 and 5 megapixel sensors. Like many other high res cameras
because of the large amount of data, they are not "frame transfer" or "global shutter" sensors. They are "rolling shutter", which means it pulls the data out of the sensor one line at a time.
Normally in most applications the rolling shutter effect is not noticeable. However, in a
fast moving vehicle application it will be visible. It's kind of a warping/tearing effect. The best way to describe it is it takes a rectangle and turns it into a parallelogram.

Q: I set up NetCam XL to automatically dial out and upload a
picture when powered up. But it fails to dial out when powered up. Any suggestions ?
A: Put the camera back to Factory Config settings. Then program it via the Serial
Port not the Ethernet Port. NetCam XL may be defaulting back to LAN operation under some circumstances if settings are done via the
LAN.
See also the FAQ for NetCam and NetCam MP for more dialup suggestions.
